The Transformation of Health Care into Consumerism

March 5, 2019

The digital revolution is happening in every segment of life starting from retail to education and health sector. Today, the omnipresence of consumer devices like smartphones and tablets have made it easy for the digital transformers to reach people. It is very important to notice how traditional health care is renovating into a culture of consumerism.
Hospitals, clinics and other health care institutions have recognized the role of technology and had introduced e-Clinics, Online Appointments, Information and Research for patients and many more. These digital health care services have made it easier, efficient, and affordable for patients to reach out.
There was a time when technology was only used in big research labs for discovering new medicines for better treatment of different diseases. But today, technology has made its way in operation theatres to effective patient service. Traditionally, there was no concept of providing treatment to patients online, but now doctors recommend medicines for basic problems online.
Today, new ways of treatment are introduced using the virtual reality. There are some applications designed for different addiction treatments using health behavior change model. IoT sensors and wearable devices are improving lives of people with disabilities. For example, there is an app Talkitt, which had assisted so many people with speech disorders. Also, nerve stimulation devices help in reducing pain and cost effective orthopedic injuries.
Technology has added value in patient service and has provided better ways for improving patient scheduling and handling. It’s all about offering services online and over the phone rather than having patients come to the hospitals for basic problems. From scheduling an appointment online to online medical reports and online diagnosis it is a relief for both doctors and patients.
Due to digital health transformation and mobile technology, there is an empowerment in lives using effective treatment. With different mobile apps, there is a rise of hope and motivation in lives of disabled people. Our generation is becoming more energetic, by having addiction and mental health treatment using mobile technology.
But it’s a big change, and big changes always take time. Normally, physicians and surgeons resist change. But it’s time for organizations to integrate with them and make changes according to the consumer needs. It is very important for the health care organizations to have an in-depth research regarding consumer experience and strategize things accordingly. Both IT and operations should work in a collaborative manner to make big things happen.
